Engadget has reportedthat they have had problems with their copy of the new Sony NEX-5N camera. The problem is that the camera makes a clicking sound as the camera is being used. Though htye are impressed with the image quality of the new camera, the problems makes shooting with the video feature imposible if you plan to use the built in microphone to record audio. They have determined that the problem lies within the camera body, and not the lens.

In an interview that AsiaOne had with Leica CEO, Alfred Schopf, the question was raised as to weather Leica will be designing a mirrorless camera in the future. Schopf replies with:
We are at the borderline of compact-system cameras already, with the Leica X1 and Leica M-System, and it’s pretty obvious that, at one point, we are going to offer something in between, but we have to look very carefully into what sensor parts we are using and what features we are offering.
It seems that Leica is indeed working on a mirrorless camera, the question is just when will they be releasing it. Schopf also states that he is “stressed” by the fact that the the current mirrorless cameras out in the market right now have very small bodies and large lenses attached to them. It’s good that Leica will be sure to stay true to the Leica design aesthetic when designing a mirrorless camera.
Canon has just scheduled an event for the 3rd of November that will be held in Hollywood, California. The headline “The Story Begins” suggests that it is going to be for something that hasn’t been see or been done before, and the fact that it is going to be held in Hollywood suggests that it’s going to be something film/video related. This could be the announcement of the rumored EF mount camcorder that uses the same lenses that we use on our Canon DSLR cameras.
DigitalRev said in a Facebook post that they were invited to a Canon “Pro” event scheduled for the 22nd of September. They didn’t specify anything about possible products to be released, but seeing as the word “Pro” was included, it has to be something pretty big. Could this be a Canon 5D Mark III, or a 1Ds Mark IV? It might even be an announcement for a Canon 1 Mark V, who knows. All we know so far is that it is going to be something good.
Canon has just sent out a survey regarding a possible mirrorless camera. The questions in the survey were just about weather people are aware of what mirrorless cameras are and if they would be interested in owning a camera of this sort. Could this mean that Canon is planning to manufacture a mirrorless camera of their own?
Canon’s latest group of releases includes a new superzoom, the PowerShot SX40 HS. This superzoom packs in a 12.1 megapixel sensor, and an amazing 35x optical zoom, making it an ideal camera for those who shoot long range action, wildlife and anything that requires a telephoto lens, but at a decent price. The camera will be priced at around $430, and will be available towards the end of September.
Some of the main features of the camera are listed bellow:
PowerShot SX40 HSWhen visiting the local zoo or sitting in the stands of a youth football game, having a camera that has the flexibility to capture images at close-up and far-off distances is a necessity. Canon’s PowerShot SX40 HS is just the camera one would need to ensure those images are of high-quality. Other features include:
- An incredible 35x optical zoom range (24mm-840mm) with image stabilizer and a 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor — part of the HS SYSTEM – the camera can capture low-light images of enhanced image quality up to ISO 3200.
- A 2.7-inch wide vari-angle LCD has been included for easy viewing of images and menus from almost any angle.
- Improved Smart AUTO settings to ensure the settings are intelligently selected based upon the cameras 32 predefined shooting situations.
- The Zoom Framing Assist button, which helps the user steady the camera when tracking a moving subject at extreme telephoto settings keeping it in focus.

Canon has just announced the successor to the S95 camera. In the past, the camera has shared most of the same features of the higher end G series camera, but without the more rugged enclosure. The S100 should be a camera to look at if you’re looking for a top of the line point and shoot, with a decent price. Here is the official press release:
Nikon’s rumored mirrorless cameras are to be called the V1 and the J1. The V1 will be the higher end model, containing some features that the J1 will lack. Both are said to be identical in aesthetics, very much similar to to what Sony did with the NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras. Here are some of the specs of the V1 and the J1 cameras:
- 10.1MP
- ISO range: 100-3200 (with H1-6400)
- CCD sensor (not sure about that) – the whole mirrorless line will be called CX, similar to DX and FX
- Both cameras will have 2.7x crop factor
- 3 in. LCD screen
- The J1 model will have a built-in flash
- The V1 will not have a built-in flash but it will have a multi-accessory port which will support external flash and a GPS device
- There will be no traditional flash hot shoe on both models
- There will be a F-mount adapter
- Both cameras will probably be made of plastic
- Full HD movie with many additional features
- EXPEED 3 processor with 600 megapixels per second processing power
- The four mirrorless lenses are (most with choice of colors, except the 10-100mm):
- 10mm f/2.8 pancake lens
- 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens (very short and portable)
- 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR
- 30-110mm VR

The latest rumor floating around is that Canon will not be realeasing any new DSLRs in 2011. This goes against all previous rumors of the Canon 5D Mark IIO or a 7D Mark II being released this year. This may be due to the severe impact that the recent earthquake and tsunamis had on the production of Canon cameras in Japan.
